Trimming a dogs nails is never easy, especially when the dog is aggressive and tries to bite.
Here are 5 easy steps that can help any dog owner or groomer to overcome this task whether it be difficult or easy for your dog.
1. MAKE SURE TO STAY CALM
Remember that dogs and cats feed off of your energy. If you are feeling anxious in any way or frustrated wait until you have the time to set aside and you are not feeling stressed. It is best to do this at a time when you have an alotted time set aside. Try not to fit it in right before you have to take a trip out of the house to run to the store or before an appointment that you have.
2. CHOOSE A DESIGNATED PLACE
Make sure to clip their nails in a place that is comfortable for you pet. Something familiar, like a bathroom, or bedroom where there are not distractions or different smells that could catch their attention. An enclosed area will help them feel more comfortable and not want to run off, think you are playing, or chase any other animals or birds that have made their way into their sites.

3. BE CONFIDENT
You are the master and they will know if you are not! When you are holding their paw make sure to be firm and hold the animal close to you. The video shows how you can put your leg under the back of the dog. This is a firm hold on the animal where they can not wriggle around and hurt you or you hurt them. Being confident can be strong yet gentle. Do not hold on so much that will twist or harm the animal in any way.
4. KNOW WHEN TO WALK AWAY
This can be a stressful experience for the animal. If you feel in anyway that the animal will be harmed or you will be harmed then make sure to step away and try at another time.
5. CUT TO THE QUICK!
Make sure to only cut to the quick. If you cut too much it will harm the animal and they will bleed. The animal will certainly tell you if this happens. If it is too much the animal should be taken to the veterinarian as to not get an infection. If it is a small amount and there is blood you can use a blood clotting powder. Here is a good brand.
